Submitting

The application that we were developing is in doldrums.During the course of its development, a lot of less used technologies were tried by me that led to increase in the level of complexity.
What I originally had planned was a simple MVC architecture, but in this case, due to request forwarding problems in my controller servlets, we had to defer this approach.Even as I write in this posting, there remains a final call to be taken tomorrow regarding submitting our project in the fray by me and amit.

About the project:
This is a simple conceptual project that demonstrates 'proof-of-concept'.
Here, I am using a mix of jsp/servlets as a front end and through connection pooling, it is connected to a mysql database. I am also using Glassfish application server to host my application as it is suiting my purpose(personally speaking, I was tired of using tomcat).
So, this solution is using 100% open sourced tools(or is atleast claiming about that).

Day1-Idiocracies and Chaos

Well ! the first day in this project has passed, but not without its colors .I've been frustrated, elated, satisfied and depressed over the short period of development .
To start off, I intend to develop my website using the basic enterprise java technologies .Open-sourced tech and extensibility has been the main factor in this project.
The project is a simple BookStore Application which employs a shopping cart(similar to amazon).
I'll be working at its core and will be responsible for about 70-80% of the project .
The start which I had imagined did'nt go off as I tried, somewhat heroically, hard coding an enterprise app. knowing fully, its consequences .After about half an hour, my ant builds started to fail and suddenly, the whole project looked as a daunting task to me (honestly, it still is) . I had to remodify my strategy and then ported the application over to Netbeans.
This whole project looks downright boring to me, but the fact that I am using TDD as a developmental strategy helps me a lot .It's really amazing to write unit and acceptance tests and stimulate database functionality .
Hopefully we'll have a functioning prototype in a couple of days as soon as Amit gets the database stuff done .
Stay tuned to have early access about our project here .

Getting Started

Well! today I got to know about this thing.By the looks of it, a website development project looks quite interesting. The appealing or tempting feature of this competition is that:
We'll know our caliber, or find out where do we stand when we will be pitted against the best.
Since this is a inter college event, our project will find more exposure, which, hopefully will aid us in our career development.
This will prove to be a stable platform that will allow us to leverage our skills as well as dust out some of the dusty corners (areas of development we hate/avoid).
This will also build up our confidence. This is an important statement in itself as website development is a process which cannot be done by a single person and/or in a day.
Not the least one, but the organizers of this particular event are themselves a success story

Having said that, I would like to Introduce us, the team members in this project
1.Amit Kumar Verma
2.Pankaj Singh
3.Sumit Bisht
4.Vijay Kumar

Our discussion about the software methodologies used, technology used, etc and other 'juicy stuff' will be posted soon so keep watching.

A final word before posting this- Please do write your comments. We are humans and have our errors. So, please write in your views (positive/negative) here.
